Granted, some of what you pick up can be given to specific individuals, like the retro gaming enthusiast that will pay Rania to find ancient gaming tech and give her some hilarious and unintentional half-facts about the item she brings in, but it’s a shame that folks like her are far and few between. With the exception of Rania’s own apartment, we can’t enter any other buildings or engage in any other activities, besides making deliveries and picking up odds and ends off the ground. With such an interesting setting, it’s a little disappointing that we’re unable to really explore Nivalis. It Can Get Pretty LonelyĪs captivating as Rania’s adventures in the big city are, there’s still not a whole lot that goes on outside of the story. Rania, being our spunky and witty protagonist, is especially well written despite being born and raised outside of the big city, unfamiliar with its customs or it’s people, she isn’t up for taking any bull from some punks, but still shows compassion, is polite, and helps those in need.

With some quirky, yet solid performances across the board, the blocky denizens of Nivalis are just as human and full of pain, hope, love, and lost. During conversations, a detailed portrait of Rania and whomever you’re talking to pop up on screen. The world of Cloudpunk seems to take Minecraft and Blade Runner together and slams them together to create a striking setting of a futuristic city with neon lights and flying cars, but with the blocky models. But it is the story and the folk you come across that is the driving force of the entire game, for better and for worse. There isn’t much to do in your leisure time – some collectables litter the streets and you can talk to the occasional Nivalian – so players are more or less limited to following their nav point to the next objective to progress the story. Once parked players will be able to walk around and view their surrounding in either first or third person. Broken up into sections, each one has some locations where you can park that’s indicated on your mini-map. close in on a missing child case, collecting punch cards for your new neighbor, or driving into the belly of the city deep below the superstructure.Īs huge as Nivalis is, it’s limited to where you can actually go. Delivering packages maybe Rania’s job, but the city seems to have its own plans for her as Rania goes about her business, she constantly is roped into strange goings on such as helping a P.I. Rania navigates the city using her flying car called a HOVA to make deliveries throughout the city. Outside of delivering the odd package here and there, Rania will be dragged into a world full of lost souls, an oppressive authoritarian presence and the seedy underbelly of the city, all while just trying to survive her first night as a delivery driver. Joining the illicit delivery service known as Cloudpunk to earn some money, Rania is given only two rules to follow: don’t miss a delivery and don’t ask what’s in the package.

Rania has moved to Nivalis looking for a fresh start after losing everything to debt collectors. Here, Nivalis is home to thousands of dreamers that gamble with their lies every time they open their eyes as it is never known when the ground below them will crumble and fall into the water below, but life continues, and people adapt to their reality and persevere. Nivalis, the last known city, is filled with neon signs, buildings that collapse and falls into the sea below, and non-stop rain from above. Welcome to NivalisĬloudpunk is a Neo Noir tale that takes place in some unspecified time in the far future. In Rania’s case, it’s more than just being an outsider moving into the biggest and perhaps last remaining city on Earth, it’s about surviving in a city that moves to fast, in a world that seems to never stop crying. If you ever moved to a new city, filled with new people and sites to see, you’ve probably felt a little out of place.
